My older sister and I immigrated to the United States when my father moved back after working outside of the US for over twenty years with the hope that we would attend American colleges. Born in Japan, we started in 7th and 5th grade respectively, not knowing much English or anything about California, our new home. The k-12 school educational system has changed dramatically since my father’s time and college admissions had similarly become insanely competitive.

Like many immigrant families, we knew that getting into the best college possible for us was the ultimate goal, believing deeply that education is key to the American dream. With this in mind, as a family, we started to research, and understand the college admissions process. We attended college information sessions when college representatives were in town, spoke at length to high school counselors and college admission officers, talked to successful college candidates, and came up with a plan that we would use for our own college application process.

Today, my sister attends the top public university in the world, and I am enrolled in the best private university, according to US News and World Report. We have shared our findings and processes with other students to make their college application experience easier, more understandable, and most importantly, less stressful for their whole family.

Milton Admissions is named after one of the largest and most successful educational services companies based in Asia that was founded by our great grandmother in the 1930s. Even though we have never met, we are inspired by her business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit.
